Italy will join remainder of the Unitary Patent Package


Italy officially confirms its intention to participate in the enhanced cooperation in the area of the creation of unitary patent protection and with regard to the applicable translation arrangements.

As of today, Dutch and European patent attorney René van Duijvenbode is appointed a partner at NLO. René has worked for NLO since 2003, in recent years as an Associate Partner, heading a team of seven patent attorneys.


Renewal fees for Unitary Patent decided


The Select Committee of the Administrative Council of the EPO endorsed on 24 June 2015 a proposal for the renewal fees to be paid for a patent with unitary effect. The endorsed proposal is called the “True Top 4” proposal, published by the European Patent Office earlier this year. This means, that the renewal fee of a granted unitary patent will be much comparable to the total of the current renewal fees of Germany, France, UK and the Netherlands.

Martine Coene and Paul Govaerts win Amsterdam Science & Innovation Award 2015


Paul Govaerts and Martine Coene of the VU University Amsterdam are this year’s winners of the Amsterdam Science & Innovation Award, the annual award for innovative ideas from Amsterdam universities and research institutes. They received the award for their idea to restore hearing using cochlear implant programming. The winners received the prize of €10,000 on Wednesday, 27 May from jury chairman Alexander Rinnooy Kan. The Amsterdam Science & Innovation Award is organised by IXA. NLO sponsors the Award.


NLO opens office in Ghent, Belgium




Presence on Belgian technology campus powerfully represents NLO’s growth strategy


The Hague – On 1 September 2015, NLO (Nederlandsch Octrooibureau) is opening a full service IP office in the Technology Park in Ghent. Based in the brand new AA-Tower, at the heart of the Zwijnaarde innovation campus, a team of patent attorneys will further expand existing activities in the Belgian market.

Unified Patent Court proposes Fees Schedule


The Preparatory Committee for the Unified Patent Court (UPC) has now come up with a “Draft proposal” for a fee schedule to be incorporated in the Rules of Procedure of the UPC. It is a “Consultation Document”, to which any one can comment until the end of July of this year.
