Minerva joined NLO in 2016. She has 10 years of experience in US patent law and previously handled US prosecution cases at various boutique firms in Amsterdam.
Minerva has experience as a Patent Examiner at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) headquarters, where she examined patent applications in areas such as optical disks and drives and audio and speech processing. She later drafted written opinions on the patentability of PCT applications for the US International Searching Authority (ISA).
Prior to working at the USPTO, Minerva was an Electronics Engineer in the Avionics Division of the US Navy Naval Air Systems Command (Maryland, USA), where she worked on classified technology.
As part of her undergraduate studies, Minerva is specialized in Digital Signal Processing (DSP). She has considerable experience in optical imaging and digital image processing applications, having completed research under Eastman Kodak. Her dissertation at the University of Nottingham concerned a technology transfer study related to the use of imaging technology developed by the University of Nottingham to detect and manage sickle cell disease. Minerva also has practical experience with digital audio filtering techniques and their implementation.
Minerva graduated with a BSc in Electronics Engineering (University of Puerto Rico). This included a period studying at Luleå University of Technology in Sweden as part of a student exchange programme. She obtained an MSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Entrepreneurship from the University of Nottingham. Additionally, she completed several courses related to nuclear reactor engineering at the University of Maryland.
Minerva is currently studying law (LLB) at the University of London, where she is a student member of the Teaching, Learning and Environment (TLE) Panel of the Laws Programme Board.
