Shahina joined NLO in November 2016.
Shahina specialises in Nanotechnology, Sensors, Integrated Optics, Fibre Optics, Micro Mechanics, Micro Electronics, MEMS, Lithography and Micro-Nano fabrication methods. Before joining NLO, she spent five years working for TNO (the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research), where she was involved in several multidisciplinary industrial projects for various markets such as Space, Defence, Semicon, Oil and Gas and Biomedical instrumentation. She has co-authored more than 30 scientific publications in various well reputed journals and conference proceedings.
Shahina graduated with a master’s degree in Physics (Calicut University, India, 2004). In 2004, she was selected for the Junior Research Fellowship Programme offered by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to conduct research into the optical components of an Ultra Violet Imaging Telescope which is part of India’s first astronomy space mission ASTROSAT. She then embarked on her PhD in Electrical Engineering at the University of Twente, the Netherlands (2011). Her thesis focused on a multidisciplinary project on integrating micro-cantilevers with photonic structures to create mechano-optic wavelength selective devices. She subsequently spent a year working in Postdoctoral position at MNF, University of Twente, leading the development and fabrication of nanostructured arrays in the sub-50 nm range.
