Steven joined NLO in 2017. Prior to this, he worked for another IP firm from 1999, where he co-headed the patent practice in Belgium in 2013-2014.



Steven specialises in mechanics, electronics, semiconductors, telecommunication, ICT and computer implemented inventions. He advises on the patentability of inventions, IP protection strategies, patent infringement and enforcement, patent validity and license agreements. He defends in oppositions and appeals at the EPO (European Patent Office) and in national and international litigations.


Steven graduated in Electrical Engineering (University College St-Lieven, 1997) and has a Bachelor in Germanic Languages (University of Ghent, 1999). Steven also obtained the European Patent Litigation Certificate at CEIPI in 2014, allowing him to represent clients before the Unified Patent Court.


Other positions

Steven is a member of the Institute of Professional Representatives Before the European Patent Office (EPI). He is involved in the steering committee of the IP group of ‘IE-net’, the Flemish engineers’ circle. Steven will also contribute to NLO’s rapidly growing overseas business, which is one of the reasons he will also work from the head office in The Hague.
