Marcel joined NLO in January 2018. Before joining NLO, Marcel worked as a researcher, as an editor for a publisher of scientific journals and as a trainee patent attorney.
Marcel has an academic background in several fields broadly relating to chemistry. His areas of focus include microscopy and imaging, image analysis, fluorescence, single-molecule assays, microfluidics, light scattering, cell biology, microbiology, biochemistry and protein-DNA assays. In his current work, he specialises in the protection of innovations involving nutrition, food technology and organic chemistry.
Marcel earned a Diploma in Chemistry (with distinction), specialising in physical chemistry (Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany, 2006). In 2010. he earned a PhD in chemistry from the University of Edinburgh in the UK. During his PhD and postdoctoral research, he studied DNA repair mechanisms using a range of microscopy techniques, cell biology and in vitro methods. In addition to conducting research, he was deeply involved in student education and science communication activities.
Marcel has authored and co-authored various scientific publications in international journals.
