Jan joined NLO in 2010. Previously, he has spent 16 years working as a patent attorney at the patent departments of Philips and ASML respectively. Before becoming a patent attorney, Jan worked in various capacities at Philips Advanced Development, such as LCD TV project manager and system engineer for LCD displays, electronic photography including optical data storage and printers.

From 1994 to 2004, Jan worked in the Philips’ patent department specialising in medical systems (MRI), display systems and optical systems. He focussed on advising and handling all patent cases for the business group Projection Systems. From 2004 to early 2010, Jan worked in ASML’s patent department, responsible for the patent portfolios of several business groups in semiconductor lithography equipment and metrology systems.



Jan operates in the psychics and electronics field including consumer electronics, telecommunication, metrology, medical equipment, lithographic equipment and software. He works for multinational companies and small and medium entities in the electronic, mechanical, medical and optics field. Furthermore, Jan has a broad expertise in patent prosecution and value creation by strategic IP advice and patent portfolio valuation.



Jan has an MSc in Applied Physics from the Delft University of Technology (Netherlands, 1981), specialising in image processing and pattern recognition.
