Dick van Dam

Trainee patent attorney
My mission is to represent my clients’ interests as effectively as possible. I do that by writing clear, comprehensible patent applications, by taking care of the prosecution of patents around the world, handling opposition and infringement procedures, and providing general advice on patents.

  • Physics
  • Mechanical Engineering

For me, the most important part of my work is to listen to my clients and to understand their interests. And that means understanding whether to seek to obtain a protection as broad as possible or, alternatively, to focus on the specific description of the client’s products. That’s where my broad range of general interests proves its value.

I see it as a privilege to be able to use my technical and legal knowledge in this way.

I have been working for NLO since 2017 and focus on patents in fields such as mechanical engineering, transportation, physics, sustainable and other forms of energy, packaging, agriculture and horticulture and industry. I really enjoy working in so many different subject areas. The most interesting inventions are often to be found at the intersection of different sectors and I see it as a privilege to be able to use my technical and legal knowledge in this way.

My main interest in my free time is sports – I play floorball, go running occasionally and am a keen cyclist.
