What will you be doing?

As a patent attorney, you play an important role in bringing innovation to the market. Thanks to the combination of your technical expertise and your legal skills, you deal with varied patent issues at national and international clients. You are in the privileged position to sit down with inventors, heads of research, in-house attorneys and commercial leaders to advise them on the protection of their inventions and knowledge and actively help them managing and developing their patent portfolio. Within your team, you will get the opportunity to access support from highly experienced attorneys and from day one you will be actively involved in the day to day business.

Not yet a qualified Patent Attorney?

We help you to become qualified as Patent Attorney. The professional Dutch and European patent attorney training course starts in 2022. The course generally involves one day a week, for three years. NLO pays for the entire training course and exams. In addition you are part of the NLO Academy. Together with all NLO trainees you will follow a varied program throughout the year. You develop your (legal) knowledge, communicative and practical skills. You will have the opportunity to meet your new colleagues, exchange stories and share your experiences.

Your professional qualities

Besides an university degree and a completed Masters/ PhD in the field of Organic Chemistry, you recognize yourself in the following competencies:

-Investigative & creative

-Analytic & accurate

-Stress tolerant, client-focused

-Excellent English (and preferably also Dutch) oral and writing skills.

-Several years of experience in IP (e.g. as (trainee) patent attorney) is desirable but not necessary.

Working at NLO

No working day at NLO is the same. You work hard to understand and to protect your client’s innovations. Matter which used to be theory becomes tangible; the innovation on which you have been working from start to finish, is transformed into an amazing product. At NLO your colleagues come from all over the world – e.g. USA, China, England and Brazil. This diversity creates an international atmosphere, strengthened by the international orientation of your work. So who knows what your day will bring you, and where your day’s work will take you.
