‘Time flies when you’re having fun.’

“Time flies when you're having fun” is an often-used proverb and certainly true. I have experienced this first-hand in my role as Managing Partner since June 2018, in combination with my duties as a trademark attorney. Although this combination is sometimes a challenge, I wouldn’t want to have it any other way.

The NLO management team has been very busy over the past 12 months. We are working on interesting projects, such as the development of our new state-of-the-art IP Management software. The software, which will enable us to achieve even better and closer cooperation with our clients, is scheduled to be launched in early 2020. We also opened a new office in Mechelen, improved our Ede office, expanded our headquarters in The Hague, organized a health week in all offices, worked on our strategy and welcomed many new trainees from all over the world.

The days also pass quickly in my work as a trademark attorney, assisting my clients with handling their IP portfolios worldwide. I was reminded of that when I saw the article in this Fortify on Carver. At the start of the development of the Carver tilting vehicle, I assisted with protecting the trademark CARVER as a young attorney. I recall that we even had one of the tilting vehicles in our office. And now… they are back.

I attended the INTA in May in Boston. This was a great opportunity to meet our clients and learn best practices from the world’s largest gathering of patent and trademark professionals. But it was also an occasion to meet our preferred associates from various countries in one-on-one meetings, lunches or dinners. This enables us to maintain our standard of quality for us and our clients when it comes to IP protection and issues in those countries. I realized that I’ve known some of them for almost 20 years! Time really does fly…
