I started my career as a patent attorney trainee in 1985 with Unilever. In 1991, after having become a qualified Dutch and European patent attorney, I assumed responsibility for two research groups at the Unilever Research Laboratory in Vlaardingen. These groups conducted pioneering research in flavour chemistry, flavour application and sensory analysis.
In 1996, I transferred to Quest International where I filled several management positions in the areas of product management (flavour ingredients) and product application (dairy). In 2001 I decided to join NLO and have never regretted that decision.
I also enjoy ‘crossing swords’ during opposition proceedings before the Opposition Divisions and Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office. Last but not least, I find it very rewarding to work with junior patent attorneys and teach them the tricks of the trade.
