David joined NLO in 2001. He started his career as a patent attorney trainee in 1985 with Unilever, specialising in food innovations. In 1991, after becoming a fully qualified Dutch and European patent attorney, he assumed responsibility for two research groups at the Unilever Research Laboratory in Vlaardingen. These groups conducted pioneering research in flavour chemistry, flavour application and sensory analysis. In 1996 David joined Quest International where he worked until 2001. At Quest International, he filled several management positions in the areas of product management and product development (flavour ingredients) as well as product application (dairy).
David has extensive expertise in the fields of food, nutrition, pharmacy and process technology. With regard to food, David represents a number of well-known multinational corporations. He also supports several innovation-driven smaller companies. David has considerable experience in identifying and protecting patentable inventions. He is regularly involved in opposition proceedings against European patents and has helped several companies and institutes define and implement their IP strategies.
David has an MSc in Analytical Chemistry from Utrecht University (Netherlands, 1985).
