Dutch and European patent attorney
Rolf joined NLO in 2010. From 2005 to 2010 he worked for a Dutch patent office serving various multinationals and small companies. Between 1999 and 2005, he was Imaging Scientist at Philips Healthcare where he was involved in several research projects concerning radiology systems for use during catheterisations and 3D medical image processing and image analysis. From 1998 to 1999 he was actively involved in Innovation Handling in Eindhoven as a researcher in digital acoustic signal analysis. Rolf (co-)invented several patents.
Rolf specialises in signal processing, digital systems, medical equipment, communication systems, software applications, and user interfaces. He is experienced in advising multinationals, universities, small and medium-sized businesses, and start-ups. He conducts patent granting proceedings and advises clients on all aspects of patent legislation and patent strategy, also on how to build a valuable patent portfolio and proceed in case of patent infringement. Further, Rolf specialises in conducting restoration cases. In those cases, it is possible under certain conditions to restore a patent that has lapsed by mistake.
Rolf has an MSc in Technical Mathematics from Eindhoven University of Technology (1996). He obtained his PDEng. in Mathematics for Industry from the same university in 1998. As a part of his study, he carried out a research project at IIASA in Austria on the automated analysis of satellite images.
