Karen Rodriguez Hernandez

Trainee patent attorney
2022 started off great for me as I joined NLO as a trainee patent attorney in the physics and mechanical engineering sector. I have a background in biomedical and biomechanical engineering and working experience in industry and research. During my career I have played the role of researcher, designer and advanced user of medical technology. These experiences allow me to communicate with a diversity of stakeholders and to look at new inventions and projects from an integral perspective.

From an early age I was fortunate to navigate within international and multidisciplinary environments, from training clinical staff on the use of live support medical equipment in Mexico, to contributing to biomechanics and motor control research at institutes in Canada, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Before NLO, I worked as a PhD candidate at TU Delft. My research focused on the pre-clinical application of a new inexpensive ankle-foot exoskeleton that assists voluntary movement of individuals with neural lesions.

As a researcher and developer of medical technology I understand the difficult process to bring new technology to the market
