White paper: What is opposition?

Opposition is challenging a granted European patent. The grant of a European Patent Office can be challenged centrally at the EPO by starting an opposition procedure. This procedure can be started by filling a notice of opposition within the nine months immediately following (the publication of the mention of) the grant.

NLO has a dedicated oppositions team which has performed approximately 10-20 oppositions or opposition-appeal hearings annually, per attorney, over the last ten years. They have written this white paper. Read why an opposition is more efficient than court procedures. It also describes the procedure, the parties involved and shows the odds for a succesful outcome.
