Joachim joined NLO in 2017. Prior to this, Joachim spent over 14 years working as a patent examiner for the European Patent Office in The Hague. In this capacity, Joachim worked in search examination and opposition as well as being chairman of divisions. Before joining the European Patent Office, Joachim was a research assistant at the University of Michigan and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden Rossendorf.
During his time with the European Patent Office, Joachim acquired expertise in the fields of optics, ophthalmic optics, determining properties of matter by optical means, broadcast technology, distribution of digital media and electric engines.
Joachim graduated in physics from the University of Heidelberg. He then obtained his PhD in High Energy Physics from the University of Freiburg i.Br., Germany. During his PhD studies, Joachim was permanently stationed at DESY Hamburg. This enabled Joachim to gain a great deal of knowledge ranging from machining mechanical parts to highly sophisticated data acquisition and calibration methods of radiation detectors.
